Once Upon a Sponge
I’ve always laughed at the whole “love yourself” trend on tumblr/Pinterest etc., because I didn’t think it was really helping anyone. But after reflecting on some words from someone very dear to my heart, I’ve realized that I was laughing because I was trying to hide the truth: I didn’t love myself. Now, I’m making lists of things to remember, to motivate myself, to learn how to love who I am. Today was hard, but tomorrow will be better. I’m reading these lists every day. I encourage anyone who sees this to think about if they’ve been taking care of themselves, and to start writing out what makes them beautiful.

Missing the marshy nature walks in Cape May. The Lord’s beautiful creations never cease to amaze me. #nature #earth #blessed

We teach girls shame. “Close your legs. Cover yourself.” We make them feel as though being born female they’re already guilty of something. And so, girls grow up to be women who cannot say they have desire. They grow up to be women who silence themselves. They grow up to be women who cannot say what they truly think. And they grow up — and this is the worst thing we do to girls — they grow up to be women who have turned pretense into an art form. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Yes. All the yes.

The beach always makes remember the people who have gone before me, maybe even walked on the same sand. I stuck this flower in the sand as a mini memorial to people I love who’ve passed. Joyce, Uncle Bill, Marla and Tom. I miss you all and think of you often. May God love and watch over you, just as the sea never stops loving the shoreline.

When you realize that the school year is close enough to see what the weather will be like on the first day

Filter feeding. And never going back to college.
